Spain / EU Customs & Import Essentials
Spanish customs adheres to EU single market regulations but enforces strict requirements for complete and accurate documentation, with additional local controls for regulated goods such as food and pharmaceuticals.
EU Customs Clearance & EORI Number: All importers must hold a valid EU EORI number. We provide professional customs brokerage at all Spanish entry points.
VAT & Deferment Scheme: Spanish VAT applies at a standard rate of 21%. Eligible companies may apply for VAT deferment through a Spanish fiscal representative to improve cash flow.
Mandatory Compliance & Local Labeling: Products must comply with EU CE marking requirements. Labels and user instructions for goods sold in Spain must be in Spanish. Food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices are subject to stricter rules and may require additional approvals from AEMPS or AESAN.
Customs Valuation & Origin: Spanish customs conducts rigorous reviews of commercial invoices to verify declared value. Accurate origin declaration is required to apply the correct tariff rates.
Fiscal Representation: Non-EU importers without a fixed establishment in the EU are generally required to appoint a Spanish fiscal representative for VAT compliance.
