Importer Requirements: Importers must have a registered New Zealand company and a New Zealand Business Number (NZBN). Additional registration may be needed for certain controlled goods.
Goods and Services Tax (GST): Standard rate is 15%, applied to the sum of the CIF value (cost, insurance, freight) plus any applicable duty.
Customs Duty: Determined by the HS Code. Under the upgraded China-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (NZCFTA), the vast majority of Chinese-origin goods qualify for zero duty, subject to a compliant Certificate of Origin.
