Thailand Customs & Key Import Guidelines

Thai customs procedures are standardized yet complex, with strict requirements for commodity classification, valuation and certification. Accuracy and compliance are essential for efficient clearance.

Comprehensive Duty & Tax Calculation: Imports are subject to customs duty, excise tax (applicable to select goods) and a 7% value-added tax (VAT). Duty rates are determined by HS codes, making accurate classification critical.

Mandatory Certification & Licensing: Many products (e.g., medical devices, cosmetics, food, electrical appliances, auto parts) must obtain certification or approval from relevant Thai authorities (e.g., FDA, TISI) before being imported and bear corresponding marks (e.g., TISI mark).

Certificate of Origin & Free Trade Agreements: A valid Certificate of Origin (Form E) is required to qualify for preferential tariffs under the China-ASEAN FTA or other trade agreements.

Customs Valuation & Invoice Requirements: Commercial invoices must be detailed, authentic and compliant with Thai customs valuation rules. Customs reserves the right to audit declared values; inconsistent documentation may result in delays or penalties.
