Italian Customs adheres to EU regulations, and is renowned for complex procedures and strict inspections, with particularly high requirements for document compliance and authenticity of commodity value.
EORI & Fiscal Representative : Non-EU importers must hold a valid EORI number and legally appoint an Italian fiscal representative for VAT registration, declaration, and payment.
VAT & Deferment:Italian VAT applies at a standard rate of 22%. Eligible enterprises may apply for VAT deferment through an Italian fiscal representative to optimize cash flow.
Product Compliance & Labeling : Products must meet CE marking requirements. Labels and instructions for goods sold in Italy must be in Italian, with stricter rules for food, textiles, toys, etc. "Made in Italy" claims have special requirements; certain goods need approval from the Italian Ministry of Health.
Customs Valuation & Origin : Italian Customs strictly reviews commercial invoices, requiring genuine pricing and detailed descriptions. Accurate origin declaration is essential for applying correct tariffs (including anti-dumping duties).
