Ghana's customs procedures are structured but detail-intensive, with strict documentation requirements and a unique fiscal regime requiring expert navigation.
Importer Requirements: Importers must be registered with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), possessing a Tax Identification Number (TIN) and Customs Code.
Import Duty: Calculated based on the Harmonized System (HS) Code and the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET). We assist in evaluating eligibility for preferential trade arrangements.
Value Added Tax (VAT): The standard rate is 15%, plus a 2.5% National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL), resulting in a 17.5% effective rate applied to the CIF value plus duty.
African Union Levy: A 0.2% levy on the CIF value applies to all imports.
Examination & Port Surcharges: Physical customs examinations may incur fees, and various fixed port surcharges apply.
